Artist Statement: This photograph was taken in Schwenandaw Monastery, a carved teak wood Buddhist Monastery, in Mandalay, Myanmar. It was June, when the temperatures can reach 100 degrees and the humidity is high. This monk retreated into the cool shadows to escape the heat of the midday sun.
