Artist Statement: Ryan Herberholz is a Detroit based artist focused on landscapes and objects that humans utilize for survival and socialization. He often works in between painting and sculpture with both modes of work sharing similar content and often serving as models for each other. With this method he seeks to diminish the demarcation between painting and sculpture and blend realism and abstraction. Ryan is especially interested in creating work that probes the way humans interact under adverse circumstances. Many of Ryan’s works are inspired by landscapes found throughout Michigan with many works based on locations in Detroit where he works and lives.
